Post thriller shoot evaluation

Yesterday, in preparation for our shoot, Georgie and I printed out lots of pictures for our board that we had already found. Also we collected various other things such as string, pins, maps and prepared newspapers. When I woke up this morning, I was relaxed about the upcoming situation because I felt that we were well prepared.

Luckily when we visited the studio yesterday, a set was already built from the previous shoot so all we had to do was prepare the photos and cuttings on the wall. We had already had arranged a room to use in the boarding house so all we had to do was bring the alarm clock that we had bought. When we started the shoot the set that was already built had brick style coverings on the walls which made the office more authentic and aided he tone that we were aiming to achieve. All we had to do then was to arrange our collected materials on the wall. We managed to create the look we were going for was by using mug shots, crime scene investigation photos, weapon evidence photos, thumb prints, maps and newspaper clippings

During the day Georgie and I spread the work evenly by taking turns in achieving the roles. When attaching our materials to the wall we split the pictures etc in half. We also took alternate turns in filming shots and made joined decisions in the direction of the opening sequence. Personally, I thought my composition of my shots was well decided and also I thought my focus pulls were well done. The biggest issue we had was that for the shoot we did not have the blinds that we needed for the noir feel we were hoping for. Luckily, Paul, who was helping us, found a bed and turned it on its side so the slates of the bed in front of the lighting worked as the blinds.

Due to the wall of investigation being so varied and intriguing we could do multiple creative and interesting shots, such as the focus pull, despite having quite a small space to complete the shoot. One aspect that I wish was done better was having more varied shots when filming our investigator.

I enjoyed filming the wall the most as there were so many interesting features to it moreover we could do lots of interesting shots. I’m looking forward to see the shots of the wall in the edit as we can creatively piece them together.

I feel that my production team worked well as a team as it was only the two of us so we could easily communicate with each other and share ideas. For my next shoot I think it will be important to approach it with an open mind as seeing the set in the flesh leads to new creative ideas spurred from this.

Shoot day

We have just discovered that our shooting day for our Thriller opening sequence is next Thursday (22nd January). Therefore we are starting to work out the logistics of the shoot and things that we have to quickly prepare for the day. For instance, we have just emailed the housemistress of Hurtwood house to ask to use the bedroom on the day.
As well as sourcing some of the props that we need for the day such as the alarm clock.
