Prelimary Excercise

As part of our AS Media Studies coursework, in small groups we must complete a preliminary exercise to demonstrate our knowledge of editing and camera techniques. The continuity task is to film and edit a 30 second clip of a person walking into a room, sitting down opposite another character and exchange some dialogue.

This should demonstrate...
 -match on match action
-shot/reverse shot
-180 degree rule
here is a diagram of the 180 degree rule...

The final product doesn't have to be perfect. Also, once the task is completed a specific evaluation question is asked of you to look back on the work and what you have learnt once finishing it.

Terminology
-Continuity- a system of cutting used to suggest a progression of events in real time and space
For example... fade outs, dissolves etc.
no flashbacks just cuts
-Match on action- where a shot of a character starting an action and completing the action in the next shot
-Shot/Reverse shit- an editing pattern that cuts to view in the opposite direction (mostly for dialogue)
